What did you like about this script?

This taut, gripping, suspenseful, and deeply disturbing crime thriller about the mysterious disappearances of multiple young women in Green Bay certainly follows the typical crime thriller formula, but is a welcome addition to the genre. It focuses on Cale, a sharp but vulnerable detective who is scarred by his past, as he feels responsible for the death of his young girlfriend. He and his partners are put on a new missing person case after coming up empty in the year prior on similar cases. The pressure is building for these law enforcers to solve this disturbing mystery. Will Cale fold under pressure again or will he step up when it matters most?

The script is written incredibly meticulously. We get new bits and pieces from different leads in each scene but it takes a long time for any of them to come together to form a cogent hypothesis about the kidnappings. Like a large onion, the script peels these layers back slowly, allowing us to marinate in the suspense and mystery until we can hardly take it. The height of the suspense is toward the end where Cale is searching for Crenshaw in the abandoned house alone. The script really brings us into the scene through its vivid descriptions, and it is an eerie feeling being there with Cale.

There is not one single wasted moment in this script. Each scene builds on the previous one and the dramatic tension bubbles more and more under the surface. This is about as tight a narrative as you’ll find, with plenty of intrigue surrounding it to boot. The dialogue also boasts that classic snappy, witty, coded noir kick. The script gets graphic at times and this is definitely a very dark story, but it is also quite redemptive, especially regarding Cale’s story as he is able to save the still-living kidnapped women from certain death.
